Genesis  of  KVK

After great Bengal Famine in 1942, ship to mouth economy of 60s and green revolution after 70s onwards has which made India sufficient in food production. But food grain production is static since 1996-97 hovering around 200 MT, while our population is increasing at 2 crore per annum for which India will require 300 MT by 2025 AD. This is a challenging task and every one of us has to put our might to usher another green revolution. in this contest Govt. of India has decided to establish elite information centres, popularly known as farm science centres in each district. In this connection KVK Raichur is one of such institute which has been established and functioning since the later part of 1994.  Krishi Vigyan Kendra is located in zone XI under the umbrella of University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur. Since inception KVK, Raichur has made remarkable achievements in the transfer of technology in an area of  paddy, IPM cotton, sunflower, groundnut, bengalgram,  sorghum and horticulture crops. In this endower centre achieved  remarkable success and bagged ICAR National Krishi Vigyan Kendra Award 2005-06.

With the main objective of transfer of technology, KVK is working in accordance with mandates. KVK has 20 ha of irrigated land for demonstration, well established administrative building  in an area of    660 sq. mtr. To serve the farming community soil and water testing laboratory, disease forecasting unit are established with the support of  ICAR and NHM respectively. KIOSK and all season live museum at the centre to provide round the clock information. In order to disseminate information to a large number farmers ICAR has sanctioned e-Linkage KVK. The Kendra has initiated need based SMS (Short Messages Service) service to farmer on regular basis.  KVK has also a mandate working in collaboration with line department like Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal husbandry, Zilla Panchayat, Department of  women and child welfare , NABARD, KMF, Watershed, Forestry and NGO’s etc. KVK also provides technical back staff  for the programmes like NHM, ATMA, SGSY ,RKVY  and others.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra KVK) is a district level Farm Science Centre established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.). It is responsible to transfer agricultural technologies and research to the farmer’s fields so that the farmer can gain the high productivity.
The KVK has excelled in bringing the modern technological packages at the farmers doorstep with the help of various instructional units. The KVK today has sufficient resources to impart training skills for not only the farmers but also the rural youth. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Raichur (C.G.) was established in December, 1994 with following aims and objectives:

  • To bring about improvement in productivity through transfer of economically viable and environmentally sound technologies on various aspects such as crop production, farm mechanization, horticulture, home science, etc.
  • To improve farm mechanization status of the district.
  • To improve rural entrepreneurship in agriculture and allied aspects.
  • To reduce farm women drudgery.
  • To establish strong linkage with farmers and line departments for rapid developments in agriculture.
